Weather Station

Okay, so this isn't exactly astronomy, but it would be good to know if the weather was clear at the observatory and it would be good to contribute weather data to an organisation that can actively use it.

Leader - Simon Dawes
Members - Andy Smith

The purpose of this project is to provide our website with real weather data that we have collected, this will eventually feed into the remote observatory project.

The project will provide the local community and our members with their own weather station data that they can access from our website or from the weather underground site/app.

Current thinking is a relatively cheap commercial weather station coupled with a Raspberry Pi using pywws

Current plan includes capture of the following...
  • Temperature
  • Humidity
  • Barometer
  • Wind
  • Rain
  • Dew Point
  • Wind Chill
  • UV
  • light levels
Light levels might be used to infer cloud cover or light pollution.

Eventually we will couple this with an sky cam probably also based on the Raspberry Pi and possibly cloud cover sensor too.
Costs/ Budget
This is currently not an approved project but estimated costs are in the region of £150 excluding internet connection and data.
