This image is of the penumbra of the Earth's shadow (the dark bar through the middle) during the eclipse before totality. It was achieved by subtracting an image of the moon before the eclipse and an image of it during the penumbral phase by Martin Crow.

Gordon Collings' Images - 2014

Two stunning images of the Moon, taken using a Skywatcher Esprit 120ED F7 Refractor with a DMK41 Mono imaging device on the 14th April 2014. 15 frames/second. 20 second duration. Processed using Registax 6.

Going from top to bottom on the left side of the image are craters Plato, Archimedes & Copernicus. Then going from left to right across the middle, the image shows Mares Imbrium, Serenitatis, Tranquilitatis and Fecunditatis. Then top right is Mare Crisium and bottom right Mare Nectaris

Jim Burchell's Images

Astronomical subjects can be enhanced by setting them in context, this image by Jim, of fellow student Simon, shows that a good eye for composition can produce great results, large, expensive, telescopes ARE optional. All Jim's images are single shot images with a digital camera (FinePix) and little image processing. (just auto-colour and auto-contrast - by Simon)
