Lecture Programme & Events Calendar

The Advanced Astronomy programme of lectures & Society events at Crayford Manor House Astronomical Society Dartford and in the wider UK Amateur Astronomical Community for 2016 - 2017.

CMHASD is very different from most other Astronomical Societies, as we run our own professional advanced astronomy lecture programme and meet every Thursday excluding Christmas week.

The lectures are held on Thursday evenings.

Each week a different lecturer from a University or British Astronomical Association (BAA), Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Royal Astronomical Society, Institute of Astronomy or professional scientist, give a talk on their particular speciality. Thus, not only are the lectures authoritative, but also include the latest information & sometimes prior to its publication.

The membership column in the table below indicates the type of member who can come along as part of their membership. If your membership does not include a meeting you can still come along but will be asked to pay an entrance fee detailed in the membership pages.

NOTE:
In the early part of the new Educational year it is quite common for our Lecturers not to be sure of the dates they will be available or what subjects they will lecture on - hence there being weeks that have no information and the titles of lectures having 'TBA' written above a lecturer's name in the programme timetable. The lectures are highlighted in blue writing.

What you can be sure of is the highest calibre Astronomy lectures.

If you are new or are thinking about joining the society and want to get a feel for the types of lectures we have had in the past please look at our past programmes page or to see a more recent programme we have had, click here for last year's 2015/2016 Programme.

Informal Meeting WITH A DIFFERENCE!

During part of the evening there will be an 'experimental' lecture given by Roger Dymock of the BAA on 'Comets - How to observe and image them'.

The word 'experimental' has been used because the lecture will be delivered using Skype which the Society has never tried before. All members are welcome to attend but please bear in mind this is an experiment and may not be successful due to technical reasons.
