Kelling Heath Autumn Star Party 2015

A total of 12 CMHASD members went to the Kelling Heath Autumn Star Party 2015 for various lengths of stay. A thoroughly good time was had by all and members were lucky to have several clear nights observing.

Below are a selection of photos of the trip taken by members Honor Wheeler, Jim Burchell, Martin Crow and Shelley Filippi.

Five constellations & a meteor! by Jim Burchell.

The superb image above was taken by Jim Burchell, using a Nikon D5100 camera, set at ISO 3200, f4 and 10 second exposure. As you can see there is lots to take in :-)

You have the constellation Auriga - on the lower left hand side of the image, with its brightest star Capella.
The constellation Taurus - in the lower middle of the image, with its brightest star, the red giant Aldebaran, which is right at the bottom of the image next to a tree. The constellation Taurus is also the host to two open star clusters, the Pleiades (M45) and the Hyades (Caldwell 41). The Pleiades (also known as the seven sisters - because a cluster of seven bright stars can easily be seen) is in the lower center of the image. The Hyades is the 'V' shape cluster of stars at the bottom of the image, next to the trees (note - the 'V' shape is actually on its side and part of the 'V' is hidden by the trees).

Note - The brightest star of the Hyades looks like it is the red giant Aldebaran, however Aldebaran is actually unrelated to the Hyades as it is much closer to Earth. Aldebaran just happens to be in the line of sight of the Hyades when viewed from Earth and so 'appears' to be part of the cluster.

The constellation Perseus - top middle of the image.
The constellation Triangulum - top right & the constellation Aries - top far right of the image.

Then, if that was not enough - to really top it off, a Meteor on the lower left hand side of the image!
